Ms. Fagnan's Class

Have you ever had a teacher serve you hot chocolate before? We have! Today we watched a movie in room 21 with Ms. Locke's, Ms. Pinsch's, Mrs. Nayyar's classes and our class. The teachers served us hot chocolate while we watched The Grinch. We watched a short film called 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' first. Today Ms. Fagnan handed out Christmas pictures and some people drew and Ms. Fagnan loved all of them. We watched the Christmas Concert and all the grade 3's loved it. Christmas concert is tomorrow! It begins at 9:30am for the daytime performance and 6:30pm for the evening. Students are asked to come at 6pm Tomorrow is our last day of school before the Christmas break! "We are going to make some cards for art" Ms. Fagnan told the class. Today in art, we made a card and went way back into preschool and did some finger painting. Then we wrote something inside of it and added a picture if we wanted. We missed math today because of our concert practice. We had gym in the grand hall. Ms. Brady explained that one person in our group would be a tree and the rest of the group had to do different movements to go and decorate the tree. At the end Ms. Fagnan had to judge the best tree. For reader's theatre we went to 6 different classes and performed. We got lots of great feedback and compliments. Tomorrow is PJ day. We get to watch a movie and have hot chocolate. "Ha ha ha" went room 15 during the movie. We watched a movie called Polar Express in the gym. We always watch it on PJ day. Before we went to the movie we did art. In art, we finished our diya's. If you made a snowflake last time, then you will get to take it home and you had to make a diya. If you made a diya or a kinara, you got to make a different kind of snowflake. On Wednesday, since room 15 won student vs. teacher we get to wear our pajama's to school again and have a special grade three only movie Friday the 20th is no school and is the start of Christmas holidays Thursday is our Christmas concert, students are asked to come at 6pm Have a great weekend

"Thank you room 15" read Ms. Jones. At blog time Ms. Jones read us a card she wrote us. Today we did Ms. Jones time. We played heads-up 7-up. Connor stayed up the whole game. In gym, we played a game where Santa tagged us and the elves would rescue us. Mrs. Brady would tap us on the shoulder to write our name on the poster for Mrs. Grieve. Today we sang Christmas Carols: We wish you a merry Christmas, Rudolph, and Jingle Bells. We had a Christmas dance party and we had a dance circle.  Tomorrow is PJ day. You do not have to dress up. Flip, flip went the pages of the reader's theatre books. In reader's theatre we finally showed the class our scripts and performed. Then the class gave us feedback, either things they liked or things we could work on. Today in social studies we went to Mrs. Nayyar's class and Ms. Mclaughlin showed us a slideshow about when she went to Peru. After we got to touch things that she brought and some things that Ms. Fagnan had from when she went to Peru. In math, we worked on our diamond sheets again. "All the people that have Santa hats come up to the front!" shouted Mrs. Laythorpe.  Today we sang caroling songs. Robert's favorite song we sang was Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. In music, we had a substitute so we didn't get to use instruments but we practiced our song. Later in the day we practiced again in Mrs. Nayyar's room. During math we practiced division. We made a diamond sheet in our books and showed a few different ways to do division. On Friday December 13th, we are having PJ day. Wear clean PJ's to school on Friday if you would like. "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer... ♪♪" sang the whole school. The first thing we did today when we came in was we went caroling in the gym and we sang the same songs as last year. In social studies, we did 20 or more facts about Peru. In math, we did some more division and we could choose to work in partners, with blocks or a lot of different options. In gym, we played fitness games like we played with dice and fitness cards and more.  Honey sales have started. Supplies are limited and it is getting close to being sold out. If you would like some act fast! Dress for the weather The Christmas concert is on Thursday Dec. 19th at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. Students are asked to come at 6pm For caroling, you can wear any festive hats or clothing The last day of school before the Christmas is Dec. 19th New spelling words went home today. Cut, cut, cut went the scissors as Ms. Jones showed a group how to make snowflakes. In art we made Diyas, Kinaras and snowflakes. We made them for our Christmas concert to put up in the gym. In genius hour we finally taught the other class how to use i-Movie and we love it. We had our spelling test today and we had 5 different words. Some people went to Ms. Nayyar's class, some stayed here and some went with Ms. Jones.  During buddies we read our buddies Christmas books. "Wow!" went the whole class as they saw that Sensei was here in our classroom. Today we read a book that the Sensei brought and it was called the "North Pole Ninjas: Mission Christmas." At recess he moved somewhere else and wrote mission complete 💕Sensei. Today we made a sticky note and we wrote something nice on it to another person in the school and put it on their classroom door or in their boots. In language arts we started readers theatre. One is called the Bob, The Goofy Reindeer, another was called Olive, The Other Reindeer and the last one was called the Gingerbread Before Christmas. In science, we played Jeopardy about rocks and minerals and what we knew. Honey is soon going to be sold. It starts on Monday. Supplies are limited. "We are going to have a double music for our Christmas concert practice" announced Ms. Fagnan. Today in music, we had a double long music because it is getting closer to the Christmas concert and we really have to practice. In gym, we played a game called dinosaur tag. There are different dinosaurs: the raptors (had a partner and tagged with them), a T-rex( had a bean bag but couldn't tag anyone standing still), dilophosaurus (rolled the balls at people), triceratops (helped people). In the second round there was time machines. If you stood in a time machine you couldn't be tagged but you could only stay for 5 seconds. If you went in a time machine you went back to the real world but after 5 seconds you came back to dinosaur world. Scratch, scratch went the moving pencil as we drew a dragon. Today in language arts we drew our own dragon. Some of the dragons we made were sky dragons, mountain dragons and even an elemental food dragon that had Pepsi lightning and a chicken nugget shield. In science, we did an experiment with a sugar cube but we didn't get to finish it. We had to shake it 200 times and then we would see how many corners lost their color. We were learning about erosion. In gym, we started something new which was some tag games and other games too. We started a new game today call teachers vs. students and if the students win they get a surprise and if the teachers win there is no surprise. We get points by doing good deeds, lining up quickly and quietly, working hard, coming to discussions quickly and other things too! "We are going to make our own art, it can be about anything as long as it had a feature from Jason Carters picture" exclaimed Ms. Jones. Today in art, Ms. Jones showed us a picture that Jason Carter created. We made our own picture but it had to include something from the artists picture. There were 3 options that we could choose to make our art with: 1. paint 2. drawing 3. pastels. In genius hour, we were going to show the other class how to make i-movies but we ran out of time, then we were going to show them prodigy but it didn't work either so we went on ABCYA! "Awwww" went some of the classmates in Mrs. Nayyar's class when we heard the announcement that we would be going outside for second recess. Today in social studies we worked on our plasticine maps. In gym, we did field hockey games. In language arts we finished up our cards for the Canadian Peacekeepers and Jordan will send them off tomorrow.  Honey is sold at recess from Dec. 9-13 We have a spelling quiz tomorrow

Clack, clack, clack went our sticks on the ground as we were playing games of field hockey. In gym, we played field hockey games and we were not allowed to dribble the ball, we could only stand were we got it and then we had to pass it or shoot. In science, we learned about the layers of soil. The layers were top soil, sub soil, regolith, and bed rock. In language arts we made a dragon in our visualize journals. Ms. Fagnan read us a book first and then we had to draw in our visual journal what we thought the dragon looked like. Everyone had a good imagination and we could make our dragon evil, cute kind, big, small or however we wanted it.  Honey will be on sale during recess from December 9-13. Squeak, squeak, squeak went the marker on the whiteboard as Ms. Jones wrote a math problem. In math we did word problems and we did one with the class first. We then did two by ourselves. If we showed Ms. Jones and did two types of ways to show our work then we could do the challenge. In gym we did one-on-one dribbling to our partner. We were trying to touch their shoe with our ball. Then we would go back and do it again. You had to keep it in your box. In music, we were practicing our Christmas song called Kwanzaa and Diwali.  On November 28 the Christmas decoration forms are due.  Dress for the weather.  On December 9-13 you can buy honey for $5. "Ok class, now we are going to talk about what soil we should use to make our gardens grow the best" exclaimed Ms. Jones. Today in science, Ms. Jones taught us what type of soil we should use to make our plants grow really tall. We watched a video that had 3 characters, Gritty, Smoothy and Sticky. Smoothy is the best type of soil to use because it has air and water. In language arts, we worked on connections. The story we read was called Nana's Summer Surprise. In gym, we practiced field hockey tackling. Tackling is when you put your stick on the ground and you have to block the other person from getting a goal. "Class we need everything to be cleaned up for parent/teacher interviews tomorrow because we don't want our classroom to look dirty and boring!" ordered Ms. Fagnan. Today during mystery mess, Ms. Fagnan said everything was the mystery mess but no one got a sticker. In math, we did a show what you know and everyone did a little quiz that had 6 different questions. A few people are still working on it. The first thing we did today was our spelling quiz and we are going to be changing our spelling program a bit next week. In social studies we looked up Peru and we finished our KWL chart. Next social studies we are going to do a plasticine Peru map. We are going to add a compass rose and a legend. Slap, slap went the clay when we were making the earth. In science, we made the earth and showed all the different layers: The crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The top layer was green, then purple, then pink and the middle is black. Our homework is to cut it in half and teach our parents about the different layers. In music, we were singing Kwanzaa. "Class, our jobs will stay the same this week because it's only a 3 day week" announced Ms. Fagnan. In social studies, most of us finished our paper from last social studies and we talked about electricity. After we drew a picture and then we wrote something with the sentence starter 'In Canada'. Before we left to go to our classroom we did a KWL chart in our visual journals. In language arts we made a paragraph about what is unique about us. First we planned with the paragraph sorter. Tomorrow we are going to edit our paragraphs. In gym we had 27 minutes because last time we had a lockdown. She only did 3 minutes of talking. In word work we did homophones.  Next week is fun lunch.  No school on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews are Thursday.

"Hello" exclaimed the buddies. Today we had our buddies and we used a Venn Diagram to see what is the same about us and what is different. The grade three's had to do all the writing. During genius hour, the people who were done building there thing from last genius hour got a challenge. Ms. Fagnan said we had to build something that we could use like a bedroom, a wrecking ball, a fork, and a super sonic slipper. In language arts we made a T-chart and Ms. Jones read us a book. She said give a thumbs up if it is a deep connection and a thumbs down if it was a quick connection. The book was called Lila and the Crow. Flip, flip went the pages of the Recess Queen book. In language arts we talked about connections and we picked something from the Recess Queen book and connected it to something that happened to us. We made a t-chart in our language arts books to help compare them. In math, we got word problems and we had to solve them using a word sentence. We also had to show our thinking and the number sentence. In virtues we were looking growth and fixed mindsets. We learned that a growth mindset is when you keep on trying and a fixed mindset is when you just give up.  Popcorn orders are coming home today We are bringing our remembrance Day poppies home today The Leighton Art center is coming tomorrow. "I wanna run on greener pastures, I wanna dance higher hills..." sang room 15, 16 and 14. Today we had our Remembrance Day Ceremony and we sang the Freedom Song and Sing for Peace. During snack the Brigadier General came to see us before the ceremony. All of the parents liked our song. In spelling we did our quiz and we got to pick a sticker.   Thanks to those who were able to come to our ceremony. Smack, smack went everyone's hands as they clapped the clay together. In science we made rocks out of clay. We had green, purple and yellow clay. We made sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks. If we wanted to we got to take our clay home.  In music, we practiced our song a lot. We practiced Sing for Peace and Our Freedom Song. Tomorrow Ms. Bessemer's daughter is going to come and play the guitar and Ms. Bessemer will play the piano during our performance. In math, we had math centers. Some of the centers were Think Tank, math games and logic games/puzzles. We missed language art because of music practice. No school on Monday The Leighton Art center is coming on November 14th. "Sing for peace...sing for peace" sang room 14, 15 and 16. Today we had a dress rehearsal for our ceremony with Mrs. Kokesch's class and Mrs. Nayyar's class. Our two songs we are singing are called the Freedom Song and Sing for Peace. In social studies we looked at what a quality life is and if our lives were good or bad. We had to tell why we had a good life or a bad life. We all choose a good life. We didn't finish but will finish it next social studies. In math, we did some more multiplication. Ms. Fagnan gave us each a diamond sheet and 4 different multiplication sentences that we could choose from to solve on the paper. In language arts we continued working on our poppy videos and we recorded our paragraphs with Mrs. Sloane. Scratch, scratch scratch went our rocks as we scratched them against streak plates. In Science, we talked about the color, the lustre and the streak. If our rock left a streak it was soft and if it didn't leave a streak it was hard. We learned some new ways to describe lustre such as metallic, greasy and pearly. In gym, we played the same game as yesterday. We did a warm up activity called yes or no. Mrs. Grieve called out something and if your answer was yes, you had to freeze big and if it was no you had to freeze small. In language arts we worked on our poppy iMovie. Click, click went the computer as we worked on our iMovie for Remembrance Day. In language arts we made an iMovie based on our questions that we were researching. Kareem and Reid got to share theirs to the class. We worked beside our group but not together to make our own movie. In social studies we did feelings that made us happy and feelings that makes us sad. In math we practiced multiplication.  Remember to dress for the weather Next Monday there is no school because of Remembrance Day. Don't forget to pause at 11' o clock to remember This Friday we have our Remembrance day Ceremony. It will begin at 10:30 and last about 30 minutes. "Boooooooo!" yelled the class. Today we at silent reading we did a halloween word search and crossword. In art, we made a bat picture. First we painted a our moon and then we did a light blue, than darker blue and then black to make the sky. After that we glued 1, 2 or 3 bats on top. In gym, we played some halloween games. we got to play 3 different games. In one game we had a partner and a ball in between us. If Ms. Brady said grab it you had to grab the ball but if she said something else and you grabbed it you lost a point. We got to wear our costumes at school today!! No school tomorrow Our remembrance day ceremony will be on November 8th at 10:30. Our class will be performing and parents are welcome to attend. Stomp, stomp, stomp went Reid and Scarlett's feet as they brought Mr. Black to the door. Today we had a special guest named is Mr. Black and he is a veteran. He answered our questions and then he showed us his badges and medals. He also showed us a picture of the inside of a tank and a leopard tank. In language arts, we explored iMovie and everyone made theirs on something different. To do this we went on safari and then to images and then we pressed the picture and saved it to our desk top. Then we would drag it into our movie and add titles and voice overs. It was so fun.  There is no School on Friday.  Students are welcome to wear their costume to school!  Please no weapons or scary masks!   If students do not want to wear their costume or they do not recognize Halloween, they can either wear Black and Orange or regular clothes.  Please do not send treats for your class!
