Ms. Fagnan's Class

"Are you ready for our assembly?" exclaimed Ms. Fagnan. Today we had our orange shirt day assembly right after language arts. We learned that residential schools are closed forever. We wear an orange shirt to say that everyone matters. In math, Ms. Fagnan wrote number patterns on the board and we had to figure out what the pattern was and the rule. In social studies, we labelled all seven continents in the world. We also labelled the oceans. In gym we played chicken noodle tag and we also played musical dots. After that we played a game called rainbow. In language arts we did a four-corner story plan or a web about what we did on the weekend. If you got to the writing part, you had to use a spicy beginning.  Davision Orchard fundraising form went home today, please order by October 4th. Picture day is on Thursday

"It's buddy time!" announced Ms. Fagnan. Today we had buddies and we got to choose a station that they wanted to do with us. Some of the stations were: drawing, trains, a farm, the story of the Gruffalo and building. In math, we continued finding patterns in the sticky triangles. We had our first Genius Hour with Room 16. We worked on using loose parts to build different things without using glue, tape or scissors.  Our weather is getting colder, remember to dress for the weather as we have recess everyday. Monday is Orange Shirt Day. You can also wear a orange headband, scarf etc.  Next Thursday (October 3rd) is picture day Technology release forms went home today. Students need to sign and return before they are able to use the computers. Have a great weekend!

"Keep on running! You're almost there!" cheered Ms. Brady. Today we did the Terry Fox run and we did it with our morning kindergarten buddies. In science, we learned about minerals and rocks. We got a piece of paper with rocks and minerals on it and had to sort them. A rock is made is out of two or more minerals and minerals are made out of one thing. In math, we did our first Think Tank problem. Everyone worked on the same problem today.  Books orders came home today for those who ordered Monday is Orange Shirt, where an orange shirt to show your support if you would like. If you do not have orange you can wear a color close to orange like red or pink. In word work, we found synonyms for the word mad

"Let's Practice our Terry Fox run for one more final day" exclaimed Ms. Brady. In gym, we played dinosaur tag after we practiced for the run tomorrow. In math, we continued working on sticky triangle patterns and used our charts to start to see some patterns. After lunch we watched a video about how we can lose control of our emotions. We learned about the parts of our brain and how there is an upstairs part (logical) and downstairs part (emotional). After we did scenarios about what not to do and what to do if we start to lose control of our emotions.  In social studies we finished our Canada maps and watched the Terry Fox video again while we were working.  Terry Fox run is tomorrow, please dress comfortably with good running shoes as well as dressing for the weather. You may also want to bring a water bottle.

"You have to sort rocks today" announced Ms. Fagnan. Today in science we went into groups of five and we gave our rocks to one person and they sorted them into different groups. The other group members had to guess what that person's sorting rule was and if they guessed right, they got to make the next sorting rule. In math, we did sticky triangles. We tried to figure out what the pattern rule was for the different triangles using a chart. In music, we played some thanksgiving games like turkey in the barnyard. In gym, we practiced the Terry Fox run and ran for 2 songs. We also played dinosaurs tag. In word work, we came up with as many different synonyms for said as we could think of. "A new student arrived!" said Ms. Fagnan. Today we welcomed a new student into our classroom and we are very excited to have him join us. In gym, we practiced our Terry Fox run and we played four-corners. We went over to Mrs. Nayyars class for social studies and we worked on our map again. In word work we worked on our adjective books and came up with lots of describing words. In language arts we finished doing our four corner story plan. If we were finished, we began writing about our bff using our plan. Club forms went home today. Please fill out with your child and choose their top three choices, labeling them 1, 2 and 3. It is on a first come, first serve basis so please try to return asap. If students would like to be in the grade 3 choir, they may also choose a second active club. Next Monday is Orange Shirt Day. "Go Terry Fox, go!" said Ms. Brady. In gym we practiced the Terry Fox run again and we played a game. One class was toads and one class was frogs and we had to get all of the flies (beanbags) to the other side. Then we switched. We had our first spelling test today. We also had our first three star students, they got to have some time on the I-pads at the end of the day. In science, we went outside and looked for special rocks so we can study them over the next little bit. After we got to play at the park for 8 minutes. In music, we spent our time showing how to hold instruments and taking pictures for the bulletin board so other kids will know how to hold them. In language arts we did a four-corner story plan to help us plan our ideas before we begin writing. In math, we made squares using Fibonacci, and on Monday we are going to use them to help us make the perfect spiral.  Today is meet the teacher and the BBQ. "Yes!" we cheered when found out we were going to the library and would be able to take out books. We can take out two books that we can keep for two weeks. We can exchange our books at anytime on our own, we don't have to wait to go together again. In gym, we practiced running for the Terry Fox Run for five minutes today. We played locomotive colors. Before gym we watched the video of  the Terry Fox Run and learned about why he wanted to run across Canada. If you want to, you can bring a Toonie for Terry. In social studies we studied about Canada. We learned all the provinces names and their capitals. In math, we went outside to look for Fibonacci numbers. Ms. Fagnan challenged us to see if we could find any Fibonacci numbers in our backyard or inside our house.  Consent to publish forms when home today, please sign and return Tomorrow is Meet the Teacher and the BBQ There is no school for students on Friday These items have Fibonacci numbers!

"Let's practice the Terry Fox run for a whole three minutes" Ms. Brady said. In gym, we practiced the Terry fox run by running for one whole song around the gym. We also talked about the run and what it is about. We then practiced skipping, hopping, jumping and galloping. In social studies, we went to Mrs. Nayyar's class and made name tags. We also read a story called 'I Want my Hat Back'.  Then Mrs. Nayyar showed us a slide show about herself. She has two really cute cats and a naughty dog that eats all her bread, she also has a hamster that looks like crackers. In art we finished our self-portraits by coloring them and then outlining with a sharpie. Next Thursday, September 26th is our Terry Fox run so dress for the weather. Today we had a fire drill while we were outside during our bonus gym. We were playing on the playground after playing Aces with Mrs. Nayyar's class when the fire bell went off. We worked on our self-portraits today and put together all the things we have learned about drawing eyes, ears, a nose and a mouth.  Book orders are due next Wednesday A fundraising form for Student Union books went home today Have a wonderful weekend

Today in gym, we got to play the game hula hoop cars. A few of the instructions were radio, it's raining and if Ms. Brady said step on the gas we had to run. We also played cat and mouse. In art, we learned how to draw ears and we started to put it all together and draw some practice faces. We had our second day of silent writing. In math, we played a game called face off or war. We got into partners and each had cards. We would each draw a card and the person with the biggest number would win that round. If it was tie, it went to a face off and we would win 3 counters instead of 1. In music we played bingo and doggy doggy.  Tomorrow is early dismissal at 1:00pm. Please bring a large snack. 

Today we got to write about whatever we wanted and some people shared their writing. Some people wrote jokes, some wrote about dinosaurs, some a story, some wrote instructions and some wrote other things! We'll have a chance to do some silent writing practice at the end of everyday. In art, we learned to draw a nose and mouth for our self portraits. In language arts we learned what a noun is and wrote a little story in our books. You had to include a name, a place, a thing and an idea. We highlighted our nouns. In gym, we played revenge tag, tunnel tag and took a mindful minute.  Here are the videos we watched to help us learn to draw eyes, lips and a nose.

Today we went over a few instruments in music. There were 15 different instruments and we learned the names of them. We also learned about keeping the beat in our feet. In art we learned to draw realistic eyes. First we drew our partners eyes, then we watched a video to help us draw more realistic eyes, then we practiced. In gym, we practiced a few tag games that we would play if we were to have a substitute teacher. Some of the games were revenge tag, four corners and fairy godmother/father tag. In math we worked some more on the coin problem and started looking for a pattern to help predict what comes next.  Next Thursday September 19th is meet the teacher! You don't need to sign up for a session, you can just come to the one that works best for you. There will be 3, 30 minute sessions that will run between 4:15-5:45. Today we started our time capsule. We made handprints and footprints that we decorated so that we can compare them to our hands and feet at the end of the year. We also wrote ourselves a note that we will be able to read in June. In gym, we played line tag again and four-corners. Today in math we did a coin problem. We had to try and reverse the triangle by only moving 2 coins. If we finished, we could do a bigger triangle and move 3, if we finished that one we do an even bigger triangle and move 5. We ran out of time for silent reading because we were working on our writing. Book orders went home today and are due next Wednesday, September 18th.  The weather looks rainy and cold for the next few days, please make sure you are dressing for the weather and bringing rain jackets, boots and maybe even an extra pair of socks as lots of us had wet feet today! 

Today we had our first fire drill in the morning. We were awesome and left the building quickly, quietly, safely and very responsibly. We also had our first Friday recess and we loved it! In bonus gym we played a game called Aces against Ms. Nayyar's class. After we played three rounds we got to play at the park for a bit. When you play Aces, if you have an ace and you can get to the other teacher, you get the other teams whole deck of cards. In art, we cut out our feathers and decorated them with zen doodles. We learned that all of the feather hairs are like a community and are needed to help the bird fly. Have a nice weekend!

Today we painted on thin pieces of paper with water colors. We made an ombre painting of our favorite color as a background for a project we are working on. In math, we got assigned a number as a group and came up with a whole bunch of different ways to represent our number. Ms. Fagnan was really impressed with our creativity. We had gym outside and learned how to play safe on the playground then we got to practice by playing on the playground! We tried out buddy reading today and talked about what good buddy reading looks like. In language arts we we read a book called dream and then did some writing about our favorite color. We also practiced fire drills today. Student demographic forms went home today, please sign and return if the information is correct and fix any information that is incorrect.

Jobs, jobs, jobs! Today we got our own jobs in the classroom. Some of the jobs are: messenger, doors, pencils, line leader, books, shoes and we even get to have a vacation spot! When you are on vacation you get to relax and watch everyone else clean. We get a new job every week. In art, we tried to finish our zen doodle book covers. A few people got finished. In math, we answered the questions what is math, who uses math and how do you feel about math. We are still working on the answers! In gym, we practiced lockdowns and fire drills. We also played line tag. Tomorrow gym will be outside, make sure to dress for the weather Fridays now end at 1:00pm. There is no lunch but please an extra big snack and we will have a recess time. We had an assembly today and Mrs. Pelling read us a book called the 'Golden Rule'. The golden rule means you treat others the way you want to be treated. In math we did a classroom scavenger hunt. We had a piece of paper that had clues and riddles and had to figure out where certain items were in the classroom. We did some art today, and learned to do bubble letters and zen doodles. We got to play with play dough and make whatever we wanted at the beginning of the day- a few things we made were: a bunny, a house, a key, a watering can, the Statue of Liberty, a tea cup and much more! Green folders will go home each day, even if there is nothing in it, in case there is something from home that needs to be returned. Please check folders daily for notices and return each day.
