Have you ever been reading a book and something really exciting happens and you think “I just knew that was going to happen!”? You were making an inference! Inferences make reading exciting and give us that “I just knew it” feeling. When our inferences are right, they give us an excited, proud feeling even when they are wrong it is still exciting because we get that surprised or shocked feeling.


Inferences are really good guesses that use what we already know and the clues in the book to help us think about what might happen without the author telling us. It’s just like a hypothesis in science and an estimation in math. We use what we know to predict what will happen next. They are important because they keep our brains and hearts (emotions) turned on while we read.



We make inferences all the time. Look at these three pictures:

I bet you can guess what is happening in these pictures without any words or explanations! That’s an inference.

For each picture tell what emotion you think they are experiencing and why you think that. Pick one and write 3 or 4 sentences about what you think is happening in the picture.

Math-Lesson 1 - Go on a Shape hunt



  2. See if you can find an example of each of these shapes in your house or outside:
  1. Triangle
  2. Quadrilateral
  3. Pentagon
  4. Hexagon
  5. Octagon
3) Either take a photograph of your example or draw it and label the type of shape it is.  Again send us your findings however you choose.

Are these both triangles? Why or why not? 
How are they the same and how are they different?

Our First Google Meet!

Great job using google classroom! I loved reading your comics, they often made me laugh out loud. You guys are funny! I am glad you are also so tech savvy and were able to figure out how to use it so quickly. We have our first google meet today at 11:00am. Just go into the classroom and click on the link in the banner The link will appear about 5 minutes before the meeting. If you can, try to mute your mic before entering or it gets really noisy. If you don't know how, don't worry! I will be there to help. If you can't make it tomorrow, you can try to join in on Thursday at 1:00pm. If you can't make either, no problem!
